What is IT architecture?
IT market analyst Gartner defines IT architecture as “a set of principles, guidelines or rules that an enterprise uses to guide the process of acquiring, building, modifying and interfacing IT resources across the enterprise.”
The IT architecture must embrace and promote.
- There is a high-level diagram of the IT components in the application, covering software and hardware design,
- Shows the basic principles of how the custom solution(s) or vendor product(s) are designed and built to integrate with existing systems and meet specific requirements,
- Is integrated into the software development methodology to understand and develop
- IT software and hardware specifications and models according to standards, guidelines and specifications,
- Uses best practices to promote the use of (e.g. ‘open’) technology standards, global technology interoperability and existing IT platforms (integration, data, etc.),
- Provides a consistent, coherent and universal way to demonstrate and discuss the development and delivery of IT capabilities of the solution.
